7 Things Women Instantly Notice About a Man (Before He Even Speaks)

You know how people say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”?

Beautiful advice.

Unfortunately, human beings have been ignoring it since the beginning of time.

Before someone even opens their mouth, we’ve already picked up little details about them.

And women definitely notice these things about men.

Of course, none of these things tell you whether a man will be a good partner.

But when it comes to that first impression, before he even gets the opportunity to introduce himself, here are some of the things women instantly notice:

7 Things Women Instantly Notice About a Man (Before He Even Speaks)

1. His Smile

I know many men think smiling is for women, and the more serious and stoic they look, the more masculine and mysterious they appear.

Relax, bro.

A smile doesn’t make you look weak.

It makes you look approachable and comfortable in your own skin.

One of the most attractive things about a man is when he looks happy to be alive.

He doesn’t behave as if showing joy will reduce his testosterone levels.

I remember meeting a man years ago who wasn’t what you’d call conventionally handsome.

But every time he smiled, his entire face changed.

He had this warmth about him that immediately made people comfortable around him.

That’s when you realize attraction isn’t always about perfect facial features.

I’m not saying you should walk around grinning from ear to ear every second.

That would honestly be a little creepy.

But if your default expression makes small children hesitate to approach you, loosen those facial muscles.

2. How He Carries Himself

My husband and I were answering some fun questions about each other recently, and one of them was, “What’s that random thing you find attractive about me?”

I told him it was the way he walks.

I know it sounds ridiculously random, but attraction is funny like that.

Sometimes it’s not the six-pack, beard, height, or whatever else the internet has decided makes a man attractive.

Sometimes it’s simply the way he enters a room.

Women notice how a man carries himself.

You don’t necessarily have to be traditionally handsome to have presence.

3. How He Smells

Honestly, this is one of the first things I notice about everybody.

My husband usually teases me that I should be working with law enforcement because they wouldn’t need a sniffer dog anymore.

My nose would do the job just fine. 😂

I can’t help it.

I notice smells immediately. And I know I’m not the only woman who does.

You can be six feet tall, beautifully dressed, but if you walk past me smelling like yesterday’s sweat and regret, we have a problem.

Because scent is powerful.

Sometimes you don’t even notice a man properly until he walks past you and you catch his perfume.

A man who smells good can become instantly more attractive.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be some expensive designer perfume.

Clean clothes, fresh breath, good deodorant, freshly washed skin, and a pleasant fragrance can do wonders.

The key word here is pleasant.

Because some men don’t wear perfume. They attack you with it.

You shouldn’t enter a room five minutes after a man and still be fighting for oxygen because his cologne is hanging in the atmosphere.

Smelling good is someone getting close enough to you and thinking, Mmmm… you smell really good.

Before a woman discovers whether you’re funny, kind, intelligent, or ambitious, her nose has already submitted its report.

4. His Shoes

There’s something some men do these days that genuinely fascinates me: going around in dirty sneakers and moving around like it’s nothing.

I honestly don’t care whether your sneakers cost $50 or $500.

But please, can they be clean?

Women notice shoes more than many men realize.

You can wear a beautiful shirt, smell amazing, have a fresh haircut, and then I look down, and your white sneakers are fighting for their original identity.

What happened?

And sometimes, it’s not even dirt. The shoes are just exhausted.

The sole is begging for retirement, the leather has given up, and one side is leaning toward Jerusalem.

Yet this man is walking confidently.

Again, this isn’t about money.

A clean pair of affordable sneakers will always look better than expensive designer shoes that look neglected.

5. His Confidence

Unfortunately, many men don’t know how to be confident without bordering on arrogance.

And there is a huge difference.

Some men think confidence means being the loudest person in the room, talking over everybody, name-dropping important people, and mentioning how much they earn when nobody asked.

Truly confident men don’t need that much advertisement.

Confidence doesn’t need an audience. Arrogance does.

6. His Grooming

No one can miss this one.

You may not immediately know whether a man is intelligent or financially responsible, but you can definitely see whether he has made friends with soap and a barber.

Grooming is loud, and you don’t have to be conventionally handsome to be well-groomed.

I’ve seen men who probably wouldn’t turn heads based on facial features alone, but because everything is neat: the haircut, beard, clothes, nails, skin…they are irresistible.

7. His Energy

Energy is everything.

It’s the difference between people wanting you around and nobody noticing when you leave.

Energy is difficult to explain but easy to feel.

Men sometimes underestimate how much women notice this.

A man can be extremely handsome and still have an energy that makes you uncomfortable.

This isn’t me saying you need to become an extrovert.

Some of the most attractive men are quiet.

There is a difference between quiet energy and unpleasant energy.

You can say very little and still make people feel comfortable around you.

Your energy introduces you before your mouth gets the opportunity.

People may forget exactly what you were wearing; they may even forget what you said, but they won’t forget how being around you made them feel.

First impressions aren’t everything.

A man can smell like heaven, walk like Idris Elba entering a movie scene, and still be an absolute headache when you get to know him.

Character will always matter more than presentation in the long run.

But presentation gets noticed first.

And what I find interesting is that most of the things women notice immediately aren’t necessarily about being handsome or having money.

It’s the little things I already wrote.
