7 Signs You’re Due for Therapy as a Woman

Hey sis, how are you really doing?

Not the “I’m fine” you tell everyone.

But really, how are you?

I know we’ve been taught to be strong, but strength is knowing when to ask for it.

And if any of these signs sound familiar, you need to consider therapy:

7 Signs You’re Due for Therapy as a Woman

1. You’re Constantly Exhausted But Can’t Figure Out Why

I know adulting is hard, and we’re all exhausted.

Between work, family, responsibilities, and trying to keep up with everything, exhaustion is normal.

But then, if you are always exhausted even though you sleep 8 hours and don’t do anything particularly draining, that’s your body telling you something is wrong.

Sometimes exhaustion is beyond physical; it’s emotional, mental, and spiritual, and therapy can help you figure out what’s really draining you and how to address it.

If you’re constantly exhausted for no clear reason, sis, you’re due for therapy.

Your body is waving a red flag. Don’t ignore it

2. You Now Avoid Things That Used to Bring You Joy

Every one of us has things that bring us joy.

I love my job, I love buying new fabrics and picking styles for my tailors to make for me. I live in Africa, so yeah 😁

Any day any of my fashion designers says, ”Your clothes are ready!” is automatically a great day for me.

I love binge-watching my favorite series like The Rookie, The Upshaws, Being Mary Jane, Single Ladies….

I love good meals as well.

No matter how simple or silly it sounds, we all have those things that remind us life is good.

But when you can’t bring yourself to do the things you love, it’s a sign that something is seriously wrong.

Maybe you used to love reading, cooking, playing video games, hanging out with friends, whatever it is you do, but now the mere thought of it exhausts you.

You are not being lazy or too busy; it’s your soul telling you it needs help.

It’s terrifying because if you can’t enjoy the things that used to make you happy in this wicked world, what’s left?

That’s when you need therapy.

3. You’re Angry All the Time Or Numb All the Time

No matter how cool-headed you are, you’ll get angry.

People, most especially, will annoy you.

Your husband will do something that irritates you, your kids will push your buttons, your coworker will say something that gets under your skin, and even your relatives will act like common sense finished when God was distributing it.

But when you’re angry alllllllll the time and everything, and everyone gets on your nerves, that’s not normal.

Something deeper is definitely going on.

Maybe you’re carrying unresolved hurt, burnt out, or depressed, and the depression is manifesting as anger instead of sadness because anger is easier to express than pain.

It’s easier to be mad than to admit you’re hurting, so you lash out.

And on the flip side, some women go completely numb.

You don’t feel angry or sad, like nothing moves you.

You’re just emotionally flat.

Numbness is your mind protecting you from feelings that are too overwhelming to process.

So, both extremes, constant anger or complete numbness shows you’re due for therapy because emotions are meant to be felt, processed, and released, not bottled up until they explode or shut down

4. You’re Carrying Childhood Wounds Into Your Adult Relationships

Some time last year, my two closest friends and I got talking about our childhood, and while we laughed and bonded over our traumas, I couldn’t help but realize how many of us adults are walking around with unhealed childhood wounds.

Things we experienced as children that we’ve never properly processed and things our parents did or didn’t do that shaped how we see ourselves and relate to others.

And now, years later, those wounds are showing up everywhere and they don’t just disappear because you grew up.

They follow you, shape you, and even control you until you deal with them, and if this is you, please tell a friend to tell a friend to recommend a good therapist for you.

5. You Can’t Remember the Last Time You Felt Truly Happy

When was the last time you were truly happy?

Not just getting through the day without a breakdown, but deeply happy.

I’m talking the kind of happy where life felt good, and you were grateful to be alive.

If you can’t remember the last time you felt that way, you’re due for therapy, sis.

Happiness shouldn’t be a distant memory.

It shouldn’t be something you can’t even recall experiencing recently.

Yes, life is hard, but if happiness feels like a luxury you can’t afford, there’s fire on the mountain.

Life isn’t meant to be endured; it’s meant to be lived.

6. You Keep Having the Same Problems in Different Relationships

Different man, same pain.

Different friend, same disappointment.

Different job, same emotional exhaustion.

Different church, same conflict.

At some point, you have to pause and ask yourself, “Okay… what is the common denominator here?”

And no, this is not me blaming women for everything that happens to them. Please.

Life can be unfair, and people can be wicked.

But sometimes, therapy helps you see patterns you can’t see by yourself.

Sometimes they look like bad luck, but if the same kind of pattern keeps repeating in your life, therapy can help you get to the root of it.

Because until you heal the pattern, you’ll keep changing people while the pain remains the same.

7. You Feel Like You’re Drowning But Keep Telling Everyone “I’m Fine”

This is the most dangerous sign of all.

You’re barely holding it together, but when people ask how you are, you smile and say, “I’m fine,” because you don’t want to burden anyone, and of course, you’re supposed to be the strong one.

So you keep pretending while you’re falling apart inside, and nobody knows how bad it really is because you’ve gotten so good at hiding it.

You can’t live in survival mode forever; eventually, you break down or burn out because you can only carry so much alone for so long.

I’m not saying therapy will solve all your problems overnight.

It won’t. Healing is a process, and it takes time.

But what therapy will do is give you tools to process what you’ve been through and how to cope.

It’ll help you untangle the mess you’ve been carrying alone, and that’s worth it.

So if any of these signs resonated with you, please consider finding a therapist.

P.S: This post is not a diagnosis, but if these signs feel familiar, talking to a licensed therapist could really help.
